These terms are the agreement between you and Placey Address Ltd ("Placey", "we", "us") for your use of the Placey website, dashboard and address lookup API (together, the "service"). We've tried to keep them short and readable.
By creating an account or using an API key you agree to these terms. If you're using Placey on behalf of a company or other organisation, you confirm you have the authority to agree on its behalf, and "you" means that organisation.
Questions about these terms? Get in touch through our contact page.
1.The service
Placey provides an API and related tools for looking up UK addresses and postcodes. The service is built for developers and businesses integrating address lookup into their own products; it isn't intended for use by consumers in a personal capacity.
We improve the service continuously, so features may be added, changed or retired over time. Where a change is likely to break an existing integration we'll give reasonable notice by email or in the documentation.
2.Your account and API keys
You sign in to Placey with an email address and password, or with a GitHub or Google account. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for everything that happens under your Placey account and API keys.
- Keep secret API keys confidential and out of public repositories and client code.
- Give us accurate contact details and keep them up to date.
- Tell us straight away at security@placey.io if you think a key or your account has been compromised, and rotate the affected key.
You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account.
3.Acceptable use
You agree not to, and not to let anyone else:
- use the service in a way that breaks the law or infringes anyone's rights;
- bulk-download, scrape or systematically harvest results to build or enrich a competing address dataset or lookup service;
- resell or sublicense raw API access as a standalone product without our written consent;
- get around rate limits, usage caps or billing, including by creating multiple accounts to extend the free allowance;
- probe, disrupt or overload the service, or attempt to access data or systems you aren't authorised to use;
- use the service to send spam or to harass, stalk or defraud people.
We may apply rate limits, and we may suspend access that puts the service or other customers at risk. Where we reasonably can, we'll contact you first.
4.Fees, top-ups and credits
The free allowance and per-lookup prices are set out on our pricing page. Paid usage is prepaid: you top up your balance and each billable lookup is deducted from it.
- Prices are shown in pounds sterling. VAT is added where it applies.
- Top-up credit is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. We'll email you before any credit expires.
- Except where the law requires otherwise, or where we close your account without cause, top-ups are non-refundable and can't be exchanged for cash.
- If your balance runs out, or you reach a spending cap you've set, paid requests will be declined until you top up or raise the cap.
We may change our prices. Changes apply to future top-ups only, never to credit you've already bought, and we'll give at least 30 days' notice of any increase.
5.Address data and your content
We and our data licensors own the service and the address data it returns. Subject to these terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use lookup results within your own products and internal systems, including storing the addresses your users select as part of your normal records.
Parts of the data come from third-party and open data sources and may carry their own licence or attribution requirements, which we'll note in the documentation where they apply to you.
Address data changes constantly. We work hard to keep it accurate and current, but we can't promise that every result is complete or error-free, and you shouldn't rely on it as the sole check where an error could cause serious harm.
6.Availability and support
We aim to keep the service available around the clock and to schedule maintenance so that it causes as little disruption as possible. Unless we've agreed a service level with you separately in writing, we don't guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Support is available by email at support@placey.io. The level of support depends on your plan.
7.Privacy and data protection
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data. If you send personal data through the API, you're responsible for having a lawful basis to do so and for telling your own users how their data is used.
8.Our liability to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that can't legally be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Subject to that:
- the service is provided "as is", and we exclude all warranties and conditions not expressly set out in these terms, to the fullest extent the law allows;
- we aren't liable for loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill or data, or for any indirect or consequential loss;
- our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with the service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in that period and £100.
We aren't responsible for failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as outages at network or infrastructure providers.
9.Suspension and termination
You can stop using Placey and close your account at any time from the dashboard or by emailing us. There are no minimum terms or cancellation fees.
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if we're required to by law, or if we stop offering the service. If we close your account for a reason other than your breach of these terms, we'll refund any unused paid credit.
When an account is closed your API keys stop working. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as those on liability and governing law, survive termination.
10.Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is significant we'll let you know by email or in the dashboard at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you keep using the service after that date, the updated terms apply to you. The date at the top of this page shows when the terms were last changed.
11.Governing law
These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of them or the service, are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. If we don't enforce a right straight away, that doesn't mean we've given it up.
